Rise of the Side Startup

More Americans than ever started their own businesses in 2021. And 2022 is projected to be another record year. According to Recode, founders who worked for someone else rose from 38 percent pre-pandemic to 42 present since the pandemic started. Founders with full-time jobs were rare pre-pandemic, but with funding drying up, more are keeping their day jobs.

The Merge

An important moment for web3 is coming in about a month. Ethereum will move from a proof of consensus mechanism to proof of stake. Fred Wilson lays out what you need to know, and why it matters.

Katherine Boyle - Investing for America - [Invest Like the Best, EP.290]

Listen to this episode from Invest Like the Best with Patrick O'Shaughnessy on Spotify. My guest today is Katherine Boyle, a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Katherine started her career as a reporter for The Washington Post before moving into VC at General Catalyst. She now leads a practice at a16z called American Dynamism, investing in companies that are solving critical issues in areas like defense, housing, and education. In the past year, I've spoken to Marc Andreessen, Josh Wolfe, and a number of founders about this need to build societally important businesses so I was excited to explore the topic in even more detail today.
